The History of Advertising In 60 Seconds
According to the video produced by Adobe and Mashable, branded advertising is only about 300 years old. I don't really agree with that. Perhaps the advertising channels are only that old, but I bet crafty women and men have been advertising their companies for a bit longer... Just imagine... 3000 BC, ancient Babylon - Animal fat dripped into the ash in last night's fire pit... and soap was discovered.
Woohoo! The tribe collected the soap in a hollowed out ivory tusk and happily distributed it. It was the talk of the town. Voila! Ivory Soap's brand was born with a nifty social media campaign! 1st century Rome - An entrepreneurial swordsmith lent a talented Gladiator a weapon. Gladiator proceeded to kick butt. Blammo! The world's first product endorsement! "Dude! Did you just see that? I want that guy's sword!"
Hmm.... I'm half kidding. Just half. Our Kelowna marketing agency has been creating cool advertising campaigns for our clients for the last 10 years: through integrated website design and print campaigns, radio, video, and social media channels. We've even used life-sized cardboard cuts outs of Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie. It's really too bad TV commercials aren't $9 anymore though! Enjoy the video...
