Company Storybook

We put your story into words your whole team can use, so your ads, website, emails and sales conversations all sound like the same company.

Every company has a story. What's yours?

The Company Storybook puts that into words your whole team can use, so your ads, website, emails and sales conversations all sound like the same company.

You know the Storybook has hit the mark when:

  • customers love, learn, and are inspired to take action (like hire you or buy your products!)
  • owners and employees love the values, ideas, and words that sum up the essence of your company

How this service is structured

This service is bundled as part of a Marketing Roadmap or Branding project. For long-term clients, the Company Storybook is something we revisit periodically since it's a living document.

Go to Marketing Roadmap

Get the writing right.

We will dig into what makes you the obvious choice over your competitors. Specific reasons, not “great service” or “competitive pricing.” We also pull in the best things customers have said about you, because their words often say it better than ours.
From there, we build your brand voice together with simple “we are this, but not that” pairings. For example: Fun, but not silly. Expert, but not bossy. Then we map out what your audience should know, and how it should make them feel, once they’ve heard your story.
You walk away with a key message that sums up your promise, plus a set of mini messages, each tied to one problem you solve or one way you’re different. Those mini messages often become your next ad campaign.
What’s inside your Storybook:
  • Rearview Mirror: existing message review
  • Why Choose You?: unique selling propositions
  • Best Shout Out: brand sentiment, online review and testimonial collection
  • Brand Voice: we are… but not…
  • Know This, Feel That: customer knowledge and emotion pairings
  • Key Messages: 2 to 3 paragraphs per persona
  • Mini Messages: 7 to 10 advertising taglines per Key Message
Your customers get a clear reason to choose you. Your team gets words they actually believe in.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Company Storybook?

It’s the document that sets your company’s voice and main messages for advertising and communications. It gives everyone who writes for you, from your sales team to your ad campaigns, the same story to tell.

Who is the Storybook for?

Mostly your customers. It shapes the words they see in your ads, on your website and in your emails. It works for your team too: a good Storybook sums up the values and ideas your owners and employees already love about the company.

How does it connect to the Marketing Roadmap?

The Storybook builds on the messaging we start during your Marketing Roadmap. The Roadmap sets the direction. The Storybook gives you the words.

How long does a Storybook take?

Most Storybooks take 1 to 2 weeks from start to finish.

What if we don’t have any brand messaging yet?

That’s fine. The Rearview Mirror section reviews what you’re saying today, and if there isn’t much, we start fresh.

What’s the difference between brand voice and tone?

Your voice is the personality in everything you write, and it stays the same. Tone is how that voice adjusts to fit a particular message or channel. A social post and a proposal sound different, but they still sound like you.

How do we know the Storybook is working?

Two signs. Customers love it, learn from it and take action, like hiring you or buying from you. And your owners and employees read it and say, “Yes, that’s us.”

Does the Storybook ever change?

Yes. We believe a company's story is always unfinished. The initial document lays the foundation, and it evolves as your business grows, your customers shift and new campaigns roll out.

How do we use the mini messages?

Each one focuses on a single problem you solve or a single way you’re different from competitors. They make great taglines for ad campaigns, and they give your team quick, consistent lines for social posts, emails and sales conversations.
